Hertling Trousers | Factory Tour

We are privileged to be able to call Julie Hertling a friend. Julie, is a true gentleman, who has been able to stay relevant in this very trendy and fickle industry by steadfastly delivering meticulously hand-tailored trousers—using turn-of-the-century craftsmanship in Brooklyn, NY. In his words: “I don’t know. I like what I’m doing, and if I’m not doing it, I don’t think I’d know what else to do”, revealing what is most likely the key to  his longevity and success.

Hertling Industries was founded in New York City in 1925 by Julie’s father, Morris Hertling. When Julie came out of the army in 1946, he went to work in his father’s clothing factory carrying on the legacy ’til this day. In 1997, Hertling turned its focus and expertise to the production of trousers exclusively—each pair of trousers is still meticulously hand-tailored using turn-of-the-century craftsmanship in Brooklyn, NY.

Hertling Industries continues to uphold the highest standards in ready-made trousers. The company’s experienced team continues to make pants individually, by hand—from cutting the patterns to placing the buttons and trim. The only items not made in-house are the zippers and metal clips. This gives them their perfect fit, and it means that once you put them on, you won’t think about them until it’s time to take them off. Drinkwater’s has carried Hertling trousers since the first day we opened.

Here are some images from our tour of the Hertling factory, showing how much work (and pride) each individual tailor/seamstress puts into each and every pants they make.
