Janet Malenfant | Surface Reflections

About Janet Malenfant:

Artist Janet Malenfant lives and works in Porter Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Janet worked for eighteen years as an art director and designer for ad agencies and non-profits in the Boston area. Fourteen years ago she switched gears and began painting in her Cambridge studio. Her paintings are colorful, playful and imbued with a vibrant energy. Janet’s finishes pull the viewer along with reflective surfaces that dance with light. Janet works primarily in acrylics on cradled board and the work in this exhibit reflect her continued interest in graphic lines and forms influenced by modern design. Colors are pulled from nature: the varied tones and textures of wood, coastal waters, minerals found in stones and her gardens. In her paintings Janet mimics the texture of woods and creates many layered surfaces stained in rich color.  Using galkyd and other resins, she creates reflective surfaces on her paintings. The reflections offer the viewer a surprising opportunity to interact with the paintings and explore the surface tension and kinetic energy.
